When Discipling others it is essential to realize that it is a journey, and that journey takes time. It is not an overnight thing that happens, especially when one is discipling others. To quote Mike Breen, “If you make disciples, you always get the church. But if you make a church, you rarely get disciples. No amount of money or ideas can replace the value of being physically present, giving time and attention to people or projects.” It is also important to realize that Jesus is for everyone. He is not just for the church-going people. Jesus is for the zealots, the sinners, and the outcasts. As Christians, it is essential not to be legalistic and love the person no matter their situation. In other words, love the person and hate the sin.

When finding someone to disciple, it is crucial to remember that it should not be a chore. It should be something that one wants to do. It is also vital to understand that God puts people in our lives for different reasons, and how Christians act will dictate how people see Christ. If one simply goes to church, acts holy, then leaves, they will not bring others to Christ. That person must make following Jesus a lifestyle and not just a Sunday thing. It is also important to remember that the main idea of discipleship is to be like Christ.

Three things are vital to remember about discipleship. The first idea is that discipleship is about mentoring others. The idea here is that older people are mentoring younger people and learning from each other. The second idea is that Christians are supposed to bear fruit for the kingdom. When one disciples another, that Christian is leading that person to Christ. The third idea is that Christians should grow and learn about the knowledge of God. When one studies with another, they are actively learning about God. They are actively growing spiritually, but when one knows something about God. That person must meditate on what they learned and apply it to their life.

When finding someone to disciple, it is important to pray about it and let God lead one to that person. God works in mysterious ways, and when a Christian allows God to use them. It makes the discipleship process easier. Personally, many times I often think about Christian movies and expecting them to act out in my life while some Chris Tomlin song is playing in the background. But that is not always the case. Sometimes it happens in unexpected ways, especially when God is involved. So, in short, one must let God do His thing and trust Him and let Him lead a Christian to whom God wants one to disciple. It is also vital to remember it could be something as big as sharing the Gospel, or it could be something as little as playing Basketball with someone.

In conclusion, when discipling others, do not underestimate God and let God do His thing. When one allows God to do His thing and remains open for Him to use, many good things will happen.
